Today we did some problem solving in groups to Synergize our ideas! Students were posed with the task of building the tallest tower as a team. They had 3 minutes to create a plan on how to build their tower using only 20 bendable straws, 2 post-its and about a yard of masking tape. Each group created a plan before receiving their supplies. After developing a plan, teams had 8 minutes to build! Such creative design ideas were used. Each team had a different approach. Below are some pictures of the process and final products. The most important part was the tower had to stand up without human assistance.
Team 3: Michael, Evelyn, Sydney, Xavier
Team 4: Cole, MaryJane, Paige, Braden, Emilia
Team 5: Andrew, Brooke, Emma
Team 1: Allie, Sara, Nate, Michael
Team 2: Karter, Eve, Emily, Shea
Almost 30 inches! Straight and tall
The goal post fell over, measuring just over 6 inches, but a very creative base was constructed.
About 15 inches, but did you see the structure of the base. Very structurally sound build.
Unfortunately, you can't view the innovative design used in this team. After time was called, one straw was bumped and the tower slowly crumbled over.
Around 20 inches tall. Notice the triangular bases used to stabilize the 2 main straws!?
All of the designs were innovative and creative. The students really jumped into this challenge. The groups depended on one another to plan and execute in a time frame. Great job, Long Leaders of room 18!
